National Grid is one of the largest investor-owned energy companies in the world, helping homeowners, renters, and businesses in New York, Rhode Island, Massachusetts, and the UK. Its fundamental goal is to deliver clean energy toward creating sustainable, innovative, and affordable energy. To achieve its goals, the National Grid Heating Rebate program is offered to residential gas company customers in the New York City metropolitan area. The rebate amount depends on the type of equipment and customers’ addresses. To qualify, the equipment must meet the National Grid’s efficiency standards.
Heating comprises a significant proportion of one’s residential budget—in some cases as much as 50 percent of all energy costs. High-efficiency gas heating systems and water heaters not only improve comfort but can also result in as much as a 30-to-50 percent reduction in heating costs. Coupled with the National Grid’s rebate programs, savings are even greater.
Income-eligible households may also qualify for free home assessments, grants, and low-interest financing options. These forms—as well as the rebate application—are available on National Grid’s website.
For purposes of the rebate program, eligible equipment includes:
- High-efficiency heating equipment such as furnaces and boilers
- Indirect water heaters
- 7-day programmable thermostats
- Home air sealing measures
- Heating duct insulation and air sealing
Rebate amounts range from $25 for programmable thermostats to $225 for indirect water heaters to as much as $700 for hot water boilers. As would be expected, the more qualifying items installed, the greater the rebate value in addition to lower heating bills.
How Does The Rebate Program Work?
Once qualifying equipment is installed, the customer submits the rebate application either online after installation or the customer may reserve his or her rebate funds online and then submit the rebate application form within 60 days after reserving these funds.
