The Growth of Tankless Water Heaters Continues to Expand

Tankless Water Heaters Future Growth

Tankless water heaters have been around for years now, but their market share is finally growing to reflect the technology’s potential. While traditional water heaters have held onto their dominant place, the advantages of efficiency, smaller size, and environmental friendliness have allowed tankless models to gain ground. Moreover, according to researchers studying the trends in technology, those gains are only going to increase through the year 2020.

Tankless Water Heaters Future Growth

The Growth of The Tankless Heater

According to Business Wire, tankless water heaters are seeing popularity spikes all around the globe. In regions where electricity is cheaper than natural gas, for example, demand for electric, tankless heaters has been substantial over the past several years. Not only that, but the demand is predicted to increase. Which means the $13 billion value of the electric tankless heater market in 2015 is likely to increase substantially as more nations seek out the more efficient technology.

The need for electricity over natural gas is not the only deciding factor, though, as there are tankless heaters that use gas, or which are gas-electric hybrids. Even in countries where natural gas is common, like China, the other benefits of tankless heaters are giving them the edge over traditional water heaters. Because these devices are compact, and they do not need ventilation the way traditional systems do, they are ideal for big cities where cramped locations are the norm. That size and flexibility, combined with their energy efficiency and ability to provide on-demand hot water, means tankless heaters are growing more common everyday.

What Happens After 2020?

The report predicts that tankless water heaters will grow by roughly 9 percent until the year 2020. That does not mean demand for them will slip by that date; it just means the experts can only predict so far into the future. However, judging from the trends around the world toward cleaner, greener, more efficient technology, it is unlikely the demand for tankless water heaters is going to slump any time soon.

Want To Save Money? Learn How to Insulate Your Pipes With Pipe Wrap

Pipe Wrap Insulates Pipes Saves Money

If you are like many people, you turn on the hot water, only to wait several minutes for it to reach the faucet. Not only is this a waste of water, but it also costs you money each time. However, what can be done? One answer is to insulate your pipes with pipe wrap. You can then adjust your water heater accordingly and receive hot water quick and burn less energy. The best thing is, this is a relatively inexpensive, quick project that nearly any homeowner can accomplish on their own.

[yt4wp-video video_id=”WmSClpzW8SA”]

Measure Your Pipes

The first thing you need to do is to measure all the visible hot water pipes leading from your water heater. This will tell you the amount of pipe wrap you will need to cover them properly. It is also a good idea to measure the water heater inlet pipe so you can insulate them as well. You also need to measure the diameter of your pipes by wrapping a flexible tape measure around them.

Choose Your Pipe Wrap

Pipe wrap made with polyethylene or neoprene foam is commonly used for electric water heaters. If you have a gas water heater, it is recommended that you use a one-inch thick fiberglass pipe wrap. For electric water heater sleeves, you will need acrylic or duct tape, or cable ties to secure them. For gas water heaters, use aluminum foil tape or wires to secure the wrap.

Pipe Wrap Installation

It is a good idea to begin the installation by measuring out and cutting all of the pieces you will need to cover the pipes. Start with the pipe leading away from the water heater. The most vital space is the first three feet of pipe, so be sure to insulate this well. Install the foam or fiberglass with the opening facing downward. Secure the wrap by wrapping with tape, or wire, every one to two feet.

Adjust The Water Heater

Once your pipes are completely wrapped, you will notice that the hot water takes less time to travel to your faucets. You may also notice that the hot water you do get is warmer than normal. This is because it is traveling through insulated pipes, not losing heat along the way. That means you can lower the temperature of the water heater slightly, which will help to lower your energy bills.

According to the Richmond Region Energy Alliance, you’ll save an astonishing $2.50 a year for every foot of pipe that you insulate. That is certainly worth the effort it will take! If you would like more information about insulating your pipes, or anything related to your water heater, contact One of our experts will be more than happy to answer any questions you have.
